Project Work

As a producer and narrative designer I frequently work on projects. I have attempted to document as many as possible here, although in some cases information may be withheld due to a non-disclosure agreement.

Anthymn

Role: Project manager, assistant producer, and narrative designer.

Anthymn was a Centre for Digital Media student-industry partner project where the student team was tasked with identifying, concepting, and designing core mechanics for a massively-multiplayer online role-playing game in production from String Theory Entertainment. In 12 weeks, the team delivered a playable vertical slice focusing on the core mechanics and also assisted the clients in designing, implementing, managing, and troubleshooting a full game development pipeline for Anthymn's freelance development team.

The project has a webpage and development blog.

Awake

Role: Head writer, script editor, designer, voice director.

A 360-degree film project starring local Vancouver actors designed to test simultaneous modular story mechanics and 360-degree recording equipment. A prototype was presented as part of Prof. George Johnson's The Visual Story course.

The film tells the story of the late Leyland Barracroft. A respected cultural critic, Leyland's wake is a gathering of absurd family and friends all trying to guard secrets from each other and from perceived outsiders. In the course of a ten-minute short film, the viewer can watch a matriarch try to hold her slipping grasp on power, a little girl hunt for ghosts, two young philosophers discover love, and an old poet let himself go, all through five different selectable rooms.

Full project documentation is available upon request.

Apples

Role: Producer, assistant director, script editor, location scouting, and voice directing.

An interactive series of micro-films, Apples can be viewed in any order. It tells the story of Chris, an artist coming to terms with his life, loss, and love in a series of vignette-style scenes, all revolving around apples.

It was produced for Prof. George Johnston's The Visual Story course, and full project documentation is available upon request. The films can be viewed here.

Into the Sea

Role: Head writer and co-narrative designer.

Into the Sea is a short game of hide-and-seek with a mystery at its end. Civilization has been flooded away by rising seas, and the last child of the land leaves in a submarine to find a place below the waves. The player explores a world in a race against time, always lured downwards by the promise of some solace in the depths.

A full script for the project is available upon request.

Musquodoboit Valley Homegrown Script Project

Role: Head writer, associate producer, writing mentor.

The Homegrown Script project was a two-year effort to plan and produce a locally-written full-length play for production by the school and local theatre in 2011, at the request of the theatre and the 4Cs Foundation. I pitched the project, then assembled a team of young, school-age writers to produce it. I also assembled a production team and arranged script workshops with Vile Passeist Theatre Company to see the script through editing. A script was delivered in Septemeber 2010 and is available upon request.
